Cabernet Franc

The red grape variety Cabernet Franc has been native to Bordeaux for centuries. A total of 38,700 hectares (2016) are planted with this vine in France. Cabernet Franc prefers a balanced and rather temperate climate and is therefore quite suitable for the German wine regions, where it is already grown on 76 hectares (2018). It is often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the result of a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.

Cabernet Franc is often found in cuvées because its wines are very fruity and colorful. Its aromas are reminiscent of raspberries, black currants, strawberries and violets, paired with notes of peppers and green pepper. The wines are conducive to aging and go well with strong, dark meat or game.
