Malbec / Côt

Malbec is a red grape variety that has its origins in the southwestern French region of Cahors and is also known in France under the name Côt. It is most widespread today in Argentina with 40,144 ha (2015), followed by France with only 6,816 ha (2015). Malbec can only be found sporadically in Germany. The grape variety is sensitive at flowering so frost may be a hazard, and quite susceptible to downy mildew and rot, which is why it is mainly grown in dry and warm countries.

A successful Malbec wine is powerful, of purple-black color with a fruity-spicy note and a full taste. The bouquet is characterized by spice, paired with hints of blueberry, laurel, juniper, cherry and dark chocolate. Malbec wines are the perfect companion for meat dishes, from beef or lamb to grilled pork or braised dishes.
