Faberrebe - a cross between White Burgundy and Müller-Thurgau

The prolific Rheinhessen grape breeder Georg Scheu crossed Chardonnay with Müller-Thurgau in 1929 to produce this early-ripening white variety.

With sufficient ripeness, the Faberrebe can produce elegant, refreshing wines with a light Muscat tone and, usually, more acidity than Müller-Thurgau or Silvaner.

Faberrebe is mainly grown in Rheinhessen (214 ha). It can also be found in small quantities in the Pfalz and on the Nahe. The total cultivated area for this variety is currently (2019) just under 250 hectares.
