グートエーデル｜Gutedel

Known as Chasselas in France and Fendant in Switzerland, this ancient white variety is both a popular table grape and a wine grape.

It ripens fairly early and makes a rather neutral wine, low in acidity, that is best enjoyed while it is still young. Fruity, fresh, palatable wines that are easy to drink can be produced from the Gutedel grape.

Despite several genetic analyses, one does not know exactly where this variety comes from. Throughout history, German winegrape areas planted with Gutedel have been rarely found. Today it is primarly cultivated in a small region in Baden, called "Markgräflerland". It is also grown in Saale-Unstrut and very small amounts in Sachsen, Pfalz and Rheinhessen.
